What’s In Store: December

‘Tis the season for holiday spices and whiskey by a warm fire. We’re getting into the holiday spirit here at Astor and we’ve put together some in-store displays that will point you in the direction of libations that will warm you right up this winter…

Naturally, all I can think about lately are warm, sweet and savory holiday meals. As such, we’ve paired some amazing wines with the dishes that we’ve been craving. We’ve also “spiced” up our display. While perusing through these tasty dishes you’ll notice there are some jars of spices on our shelves. We thought we’d wet your appetites even more with a little sensory experience. Let us know what you think. And if you happen to find me near the display sniffing the cardamom and orange jar, be sure to say hello.

 New Zealand Wines

Kiwi Wines

While we’re bundled up in our puffer coats, folks over in New Zealand are frolicking in the warm weather and bathing in rays of sunshine. We may not have their lovely temperatures right now, but we can certainly enjoy their wines, and these are two of our favorites:

Arona Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough – 2010
Wellies Pinot Noir, Marlborough – 2008

Wines For Carnivores

‘Tis also the season to pack on the winter pounds and indulge in rich, delicious t-bones and buttery filet mignons. But we refuse to do so without a perfect glass of red to complement. We’ve picked out a few of our favorite bottles that will do just the trick.

Ch. La Grave, Médoc – 2009
La Croix de Pez, St.-Estèphe – 2008
Ch. La Goutère, Bordeaux Rouge – 2009
