What are some of our favorites?
Tufjano Bianco, Colli della Murgia – 2009
I don’t wear perfume as it’s a big “no-no” at my office. This may explain my liking aromatic white wines like this Tufjano. It’s from southern Italy and has been a great hit with my simple but delicious meal of roasted, herbed chicken. The floral nature of the wine works well with thyme, oregano and any other herbs you rub into your bird. I love an uncomplicated meal to match up with an equally easy dry, white wine – especially during these sweaty NY months!
Raisins Gaulois, Marcel Lapierre – 2010
This lovely, natural Gamay from celebrity Beaujolais winemaker Marcel Lapierre is full of fresh cranberry and raspberry fruit and lively acidity. As it’s made from declassified fruit and bottled as a simple Vin de France, it’s a total steal. This wine is pure fun. It pairs well with just about anything from sausage to salmon. Drink with a light chill, preferably outdoors. This is a perfect bottle for any time you have a crowd over for a barbecue or are sharing some cold cuts in Central Park.
Montinore Pinot Gris, Willamette Valley – 2010
What a perfect wine for the warm weather! For years Montinore Estates has been producing delicious, balanced and accessible wines; this Pinot Gris is no exception! The color is a beautiful straw-lemon and the intense aromatics jump out of the glass: yellow apple, fresh pear, and white flowers. Your will be salivating after the first sip, begging for another taste! The bright acidity and apple/pear/citrus flavors are zippy and oh-so refreshing. Drink this with dinner tonight or an afternoon meal, paired with seafood, chicken or a simple salad – YUM!
Côtes du Rhône, Dom. des Bacchantes – 2010
This Cotes du Rhone is truly a classic! Rustic and earthy with just the right amount of refinement…think a lumberjack in a tuxedo! The Dom. Des Bacchantes is a Syrah-based Côtes du Rhône and is redolent of cranberry, blackberry, leather, and eucalyptus on the palate. It is supported by pipe tobacco, eucalyptus, smoke, cellar dust, and even burnt toast on the nose. It’s a simple pleasure that never fails to deliver. Who says good French wine is too expensive? Just thinking of this wine makes me hungry for a rack of lamb!
