Once a spirit shrouded in mystery, Mezcal is coming out, and drinkers everywhere agree, the smoky, fruity, complex flavors of the “other agave spirit” are ripe for exploration. Join Astor Center and Mezcal from Oaxaca for a very special tasting of our favorite small-batch Mezcals. Nine visiting producers will be pouring samples of their spirits and answering your questions about the sultriest spirit south of the border. Learn more and sip your way through Mexico’s rich heritage of craft distilling in this casual self-paced tasting. For the traditionalists (and brave of heart), tastes of worm salt will be available.
To complement this spirited afternoon, we’ve invited Chef Julian from Toloache and Yerba Buena to cook up some savory Mexican-inspired bites. And no celebration of agave would be complete without cocktails! So we’ll be featuring guest mixologists from some of New York’s most acclaimed tequila and mezcal establishments to concoct and serve the perfect Mezcal tipple.
We’ll provide you with your own jicara, the traditional dried gourd vessel of Mezcal’s homeland to take home for your next tasting adventure.
