Martinis, Manhattans and More

‘I never have more than one drink before dinner. But I do like that one to be large and very strong and very cold, and very well-made.’ – Casino Royale

Join us for an evening of history and speculation in which we will make and consume several strong cocktails straight up. Not for the faint of heart or lilied of liver.

The stirred gin cocktail, from the vermouth-laden Martinez through to the ultra-dry mid-century modern Martini with some flavorful side excursions along the way: is there a cocktail on the behalf of which more ink has been spilled or with more lore surrounding it provenance than the simple, elegant Martini?

The stirred rye cocktail – the mighty Manhattan, as iconic as the borough for which it is named: no one cocktail has inspired as much delicious variation amongst contemporary bartenders as has this smooth, brawny drink.

Join us for a look at the Martini timeline from the 1860s to today, consider garnishes, perfect stirring technique, and mix and enjoy a few of the forms of each of these delicious cocktails.
