World Whisky

The old guards in Islay and Kentucky are churning out more than ever, but today the focus is on the whisky revolution that’s happening in special corners all around the globe.

Starward Two-Fold Australian Whisky $29.96

Imported whisky this good at this price shouldn’t be possible, yet here we are. From one of Australia’s top distilleries, this is truly a whisky for wine drinkers. With a mash-bill of both wheat and malted barley and aged in barrels previously used for housing local red wine, this whisky has a soft and round profile full of tropical fruit and subtle oaky spices. Definitely complex enough to enjoy as a neat pour, but easily versatile as a base for any number of classic whisky cocktails (juleps!) or get crazy and sub it for another spirit (a splash of tonic water and nobody has to know). Above and beyond from Down Under. – James Angelos, Astor Wines & Spirits Consultant

Indri Trini Single Malt Indian Whisky $58.96

I’m so excited that Indri is finally available in the United States. Made from an ancient strain of ‘6-row’ barley sourced from the foothills of the Himalayas, this incredible distillate is expertly matured in a combination of three (‘Trini’) different casks; ex-bourbon, ex-wine and Pedro Ximenez sherry, then finally blended to perfection. This is without a doubt a premium whisky with core notes of wood-fired pineapple, black tea, raisin, and butterscotch. – Simon Gouldstone, Astor Wines & Spirits Consultant

Stauning Smoke Danish Single Malt Whisky $99.96

A true study of terroir, Stauning Whisky is located on the far western coast of Denmark, and every ingredient is sourced within 3 km of the distillery! Through in-house floor maltings and direct fire heating of pot stills (no steam coils here), we are treated to an explosion of barley flavor that has all but disappeared from today’s whiskies. The barley has such a vibrant fruitiness and nuttiness that is balanced with the addition of local peat and heather, adding a characteristic smokiness that is both savory and floral. – Alex Malecki, Sales Manager

Michel Couvreur The Unique Whisky $44.96

This great blended Scotch-style whisky is made by a Belgian in Burgundy, France. That could be confusing, but the result is incredible. It’s a smooth drink with slight salinity and delicate almond vanilla. The sherry cask aging gives the perfect roundness. If you are in the mood to try a different kind of blended whisky, you should give it a try! – Andrea Fraccari, Astor Wines & Spirits Consultant

Starward Nova Australian Single Malt Whisky $51.96

The nose on Starward’s Nova is swirling with glazed cinnamon rolls, light red fruits and a soft floral aroma. This taste is of caramelized apples, baking spices with the red wine cask providing subtle tannins, the flavors all speckling like sparks bouncing from a flame. It’s such a delicious, mellow drinking whiskey that represents the best of Australia’s wine and distillation hand-in-hand. – Jose Banegas, Astor Wines & Spirits Consultant

Fuji Single Grain Japanese Whiskey $99.96

You’ll see on the label this is bottled as a Single Grain Japanese Whiskey, with the “e” designating a particular style leaning more towards an American Bourbon than a Japanese whisky. With corn as the primary grain, snowmelt from Mt. Fuji (some of the softest water in Japan), and American Oak for aging, we are brought on a journey that is both familiar and new. Three grain whiskeys are masterfully blended together, incorporating a kettle distiller, a doubler, and a continuous multi-column still. This process creates one of the most complex flavor profiles I have encountered in a grain whiskey. Orchard fruits, vanilla cream, cocoa, and cinnamon in every sip. – Alex Malecki, Sales Manager
