Staff Pick: St. Aubin Blanc 1er Cru, “Les Combes,” Marc Colin – 2009

MY KIND OF CHARDONNAY. This is a northern-style white Burgundy with a nice acid backbone and lots of zest which burst in your mouth. It is not overoaked like some of warmer climate wines and therefore it does not have that soft approach people are tired of. When I sip this it makes me want a basic French roasted chicken and a few potatoes and green beans. On the finish it has the beginnings of honey which is an indication that it will be a lot different as it ages but will still be a good food and sipping wine. Drink it now when it is young or let it rest for a few years. – Bill F.
